Titling is designed for succession from day one. U.S. assets above US$60,000 can subject a non-resident's estate to U.S. estate tax, at rates up to 40%. Every structure is defined with specialized legal counsel.

Detail and source

We structure account titling and portfolio composition with succession in mind, including alternatives such as joint accounts with rights of survivorship and assets not subject to U.S. estate tax. IBKR requires the IRS Transfer Certificate (Form 5173) above US$60,000, a process that can take a year or more. There is no Brazil-U.S. succession treaty. International succession planning involves both U.S. and Brazilian tax rules, and structures are defined case by case.

The question that matters

"What if Motta closes tomorrow?"

Nothing happens. The account is yours, the assets are yours, the access is yours.

Delinking the adviser is one click in the Interactive Brokers portal, and the portfolio remains intact.

Why it is built this way

No redemption and no forced sale. That is exactly how a wealth relationship should be designed: your security cannot depend on our existence.

Your security does not depend on trusting us. It depends on the structure, and the structure is verifiable.

Verify it yourself

Don't take our word for it. Check the official sources.

Direct questions, direct answers

What if Motta Advisors closes tomorrow?

Nothing happens to your wealth. The account is yours, at Interactive Brokers, and we never hold your funds. Delinking the adviser is one click in the portal, and the account continues exactly as it is, with you in control.

What if Interactive Brokers fails?

Client assets are held segregated from the broker's own assets, with SIPC protection of up to US$500,000 and an excess policy at Lloyd's of London of up to US$30 million per account (cash sublimits apply; market fluctuation is not covered). IBKR is Nasdaq-listed and regulated by the SEC and FINRA.

Do you have access to my money?

No. We operate under a limited power of attorney: we can trade the assets and debit the contractually agreed fee, nothing else. We cannot transfer funds to ourselves or to third parties.

How does inheritance of a U.S. account work?

It depends on the chosen structure: individual titling, joint account with rights of survivorship, or corporate structures. Important: transfer-on-death beneficiary designation is not available to non-residents, and U.S. assets above US$60,000 can subject the estate to American estate tax. That is why titling is designed from day one, with specialized legal counsel.

What about taxes on American dividends?

Dividends from U.S. assets paid to Brazilian residents are subject to 30% withholding at source. There is no Brazil-U.S. tax treaty that reduces it. Portfolio composition takes this into account from the start, and we guide your Brazilian filing obligations (IRPF/CBE).

The account is yours. Always was, always will be.
